The civic association Bürgerverein Hansaviertel e.V. was founded in 2004. With the motto “Living heritage – living monument”, we are committed to the preservation and upkeep of Germany’s largest and – along with the Werkbundsiedlung of 1927 at the Weissenhof in Stuttgart – most important building exhibition.
The activities of the association are many and varied. With our current 165 members (as at: summer 2018), we have, among other things, repaired orientation maps and fought for the preservation of the Hansabibliothek (public library).
In our infoshop “Verein & Wein” visitors will find useful information about our district.
Even though the focus of the Bürgerverein Hansaviertel e.V. is on the architecture of Interbau 57, working groups do research on, and publish information about, the (first) Hansaviertel, which existed between 1895 and 1943.
In addition to doing research into the buildings of the earlier Hansaviertel and its prominent residents, we researched the names of 1030 Jewish neighbors around Hansaplatz who were deported. “The Window of Remembrance” at the south exit of the underground station reminds us of them today.
Store and Infoshop “Verein & Wein”
Since 19 May 2008 the civic association has been located in the wine shop at Hansaplatz with books about the architecture and history of the Hansaviertel, as well as postcards and DVDs. You can also see a selection of what we have to offer in our shop on the website.
Our shop “Verein und Wein”, freshly renovated, with a new layout, with new furniture and very important: with new co-tenants.
Pinar and Bora Caliskan sell high-quality wines. Their company Winehane has been engaged in the distribution of high-quality wines since 2014.
“We know our winemakers and can therefore offer wines full of character and of the highest quality. After Corona, we will be happy to invite you to wine tastings and then sit together on the bench in a relaxed atmosphere. We look forward to seeing you!”
