The civic association B\u00fcrgerverein Hansaviertel e.V.<\/em> was founded in 2004. With the motto \u201cLiving heritage \u2013 living monument\u201d, we are committed to the preservation and upkeep of Germany\u2019s largest and \u2013 along with the Werkbundsiedlung of 1927 at the Weissenhof in Stuttgart \u2013 most important building exhibition.<\/p>\n

The activities of the association are many and varied. With our current 165 members (as at: summer 2018), we have, among other things, repaired orientation maps and fought for the preservation of the Hansabibliothek (public library).<\/p>\n

In our infoshop visitors will find useful information about our district.<\/p>\n

Even though the focus of the B\u00fcrgerverein Hansaviertel e.V.<\/em> is on the architecture of Interbau 57<\/em>, working groups do research on, and publish information about, the (first) Hansaviertel, which existed between 1895 and 1943.<\/p>\n

In addition to doing research into the buildings of the earlier Hansaviertel and its prominent residents, we researched the names of 1030 Jewish neighbors around Hansaplatz who were deported. \u201cThe Window of Remembrance\u201d at the south exit of the underground station reminds us of them today.<\/p>\n

New Prospects for the Store<\/h4>\n

Since February 2026, the club store has once again been fully at the club\u2019s disposal after several years of being subleased.
\nThe store at Bartningallee 5, 10557 Berlin now serves as a project space for the \u201cKulturbahnhof\u201d project, which is funded by the Lotto Foundation.
\nAt the same time, it is a place for discussions about the Hansaviertel, for exhibitions, and for the sale of the association\u2019s publications.
\nThanks to the volunteer efforts of our members, the shop is open regularly and warmly welcomes interested residents.
\nIn May 2026, an exhibition featuring designs for the reconstruction of the burned-down teahouse in Tiergarten will be presented there. The designs were developed by architecture students at HTWK Leipzig.<\/p>\n
